Accepted methods of payment include Visa, Master Card, Discover, American Express and Electronic Check or EFT/ACH. 

You must enter the invoice number as it appears on your invoice. For example the IN must be in all upper case letters.  An example of entering an inspection invoice number would be IN12345. In addition to entering the invoice number you must also enter the invoice date in an 8-digit format, for example 01012025.

Important Note: Pursuant to West Virginia law, a twenty-five dollar ($25) service charge will be assessed for any returned/dishonored payments.
 

A final inspection request must be accompanied by the Request for Final Inspection form and the form must be completed in its entirety including the document/submission number and indication of whether all plan review invoices have been paid. The completed Request for Final Inspection form may be submitted via email to sfminspections@wv.gov.

An annual inspection request should be sent via email to sfminspections@wv.gov requesting an annual inspection providing the name of the facility as well as the street address and the county where the facility is located.

No, our office does not have jurisdiction over one to two family dwellings. Please refer to the State Fire Code, Title 87 Series 1, click here to view the code on our Laws page

"1.6. Exemption. -- This State Fire Code has no application to personal care homes caring for three or less patients or buildings used wholly as dwelling houses for no more than two families and has no application to buildings or structures used primarily for agricultural purposes including agritourism purposes. Provided; however, that farm structures (1) used for group sleeping accommodations for farm workers or (2) used for health care, or detention/correctional occupancy are not exempt from the requirements of this State Fire Code. All permits and processes pertaining to the boilers, including inspections, are exempt from the State Fire Code and are under the jurisdiction of the West Virginia Division of Labor."

Once your plan review documents have been issued, please follow the steps below to ensure compliance and avoid delays:

  1. Contact the Inspection Division at (304) 558-2191 no later than two weeks prior to the
    start of the project to schedule an initial construction meeting.
  2. All review fees must be paid before the final inspection can be scheduled. These fees
    cover:
    1. Construction inspections
    2. Final inspection
    3. Occupancy permit
  3. Upon completion of the project, you must submit a Final Inspection Request, Final inspection request must be filled out completely in regard to the project scope of work. Coordination with architects, engineers and subcontractors may be required to obtain the required information. 

The West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office launched an electronic Plan Review Request Portal, effective March 1, 2025, making it mandatory for all new plan submissions to go through this online system. Hard copy submissions will no longer be accepted. The new online
portal streamlines the submission and review process for construction and fire safety plans.

    3. Fill out the required application form and upload your plans and supporting documents
  2. Receive Invoice & Payment Instructions
    1. After the review is completed an invoice will be generated and sent to the email address provided on the application
    2. The invoice includes a secure online payment link
    3. Note: Cash, physical checks, and money orders are not accepted for online submissions

For projects with document numbers beginning with “PR#,” all revisions or resubmittals must be
